Elementary School (3rd-5th)
FORMING THE AFFECTIONS
Madison Christian's Elementary School includes 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade.
As the second part of the Grammar Stage of our elementary Classical Christian Education, your elementary school student will become more independent. They begin using lockers and switching classes in 4th and 5th grades. To help in their executive functioning, teachers guide the use of organizational binders and planners which helps students think beyond the immediate needs of the moment. Instruction begins to shift from concrete facts and memorization to contemplating ideas in class discussions. Students are guided as they acquire more responsibility and independence.
Elementary students work to refine and improve their skills in an atmosphere that encourages mastery especially in the areas of math, writing, Latin, and grammar. Students experience the shift from “learning to read” to “reading to learn” and families are encouraged to read and discuss the books we are reading at home. Students' affections and moral imagination are formed through works of classical literature such as "Charlotte’s Web," "Mary Poppins," "Robinson Crusoe," and "Johnny Tremain."
